Pet Iguana

Most people would agree that iguanas as pets are sensitive to changes in their environment. To properly thrive, an iguana needs to be given a stable environment with proper foods. This is especially true for albino iguana pets!

The most important factor that an iguana owner can influence in the life of their pet is the quality and quantity of food given. An albino iguana is considered herbivorous. This means that it primarily requires a plant based nutrient and energy source. While herbivore iguanas might occasionally eat a few insects here and there, they are better able to get their nutrition from plants.

Albino iguanas, like almost any pet iguana, is most appropriately fed a variety of plant based foods. The healthiest option in this category is a mix of dark green leafy vegetables such as romaine lettuce as well as small chopped up vegetables. Feeding a variety of foods helps ensure that all of the essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients are being supplied to your iguana. Doing so will help keep your pet in the prime of its health!

When and how to feed an albino iguana
Like many animals, iguanas will be hungry in the morning. An albino iguana is best fed one to two hours after it wakes up. During this time, it will be actively looking for something to eat. The environmental conditions and timing will promote proper digestion while the iguana is still awake. Additional smaller snacks can be provided several times throughout the day if your pet iguana will eat them. Try to avoid feeding an iguana right before lights out.

Your iguana should be fed its food in a sturdy, shallow dish. Thicker, broad-based plastic or ceramic dishes help prevent the dish from being tipped over when the albino iguana feeds. Regarding the best food amount to be give at any given time, it is recommended to feed based on the size of your pet. Watch out for uneaten food. Iguanas should be fed enough food so that they eat it all but do not go immediately wandering to look for more.

What about water?
Iguanas require a constant supply of fresh water to remain hydrated at all times. Many of the vegetables your pet is fed have a high water content, but even this is not sufficient for them, so remember to have a dish of fresh water. This water should be changed daily to help keep your albino iguana healthy.
